While I was in Tucson 12/20-12/31, I took portraits of most people I spent time with. If you are one of those people, you were no doubt annoyed by my camera in your face
All of the shots are at f/1.4, which is the widest aperture (smallest f number) of the lens I used. By using such a wide aperture, the depth of field is very shallow, so the backgrounds are out of focus for a nice pro-looking effect. I chose the best shot for each person as long as they were looking into the camera (except Whe, sorry). A few of the shots are a little blurry since I was using pretty low shutter speeds most of the time. I went with B&W on all the photos for continuity.
I decided to do this on a whim, thinking it would help me get better at taking shots of people, which I don’t do too often. One of the biggest takeaways from this little project was to take lots of photos once you get someone smiling – chances are that at least a few will suck, so you need to increase your odds by having several to choose from.
